Event Description:

Description of Webinar Session:  This interactive workshop is designed for practicum students who are about to embark on their clinical supervision journey or are currently participating in clinical supervision. The session will provide a comprehensive overview of what to expect from the clinical supervision experience, from the fundamentals of effective supervision to understanding your roles, responsibilities, and growth opportunities. Participants will gain insights into how to make the most of their clinical supervision, build a collaborative relationship with their supervisor, and navigate challenges that may arise during the process.

Learning objectives:

• Understand the purpose and key components of clinical supervision in counselling.
• Recognize the different roles of the supervisor and the supervisee.
• Identify the various supervision models and styles and how they apply to their personal development.
• Learn strategies for receiving and utilizing feedback effectively.
• Explore common challenges faced during clinical supervision and how to address them.
• Understand the importance of self-reflection, cultural competence, and ethical decision making in clinical practice.
• Gain practical tools to foster a productive, collaborative, and supportive relationship with their supervisor.

About The Presenters:

Blythe Shepard is President Emerita of Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and co-editor/author of several CCPA books on supervision. She facilitates the Circle of Practice in Clinical Supervision and teaches the CCPA clinical supervision course through the University of Lethbridge.

Micheala Slipp developed and teaches Clinical Supervision and Consultation for Art Therapists and Counsellors at Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. She has taught and supervised students at several graduate programs across Canada and runs private practice supporting therapists, supervisors, and consultants. She has recently completed a graduate degree in health law with a special
research in supervisory liability.
